Safe and environmental-friendly methods for the destruction of ammunition

bookPart
Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) in the soil of the Netherlands as a heritage from WWII is still a large problem. The risk that people might be hurt or even killed makes it necessary to survey for unexploded ordnance and to destruct all items found. On an annual basis thousands of ammunition articles are found that call for destruction. Certain areas of the Netherlands were subject to heavy bombardments or battle activities. As the costs for the survey and neutralization of UXO are very high, these areas have been avoided as long as possible, but due to the Jack of suitable alternative areas, these polluted soils are now being cleaned from explosives
