article
To the Editor: We welcome the letter to the editor by Pouwer and DeschĂȘnes [1] and would like to take the opportunity to clarify and add to our study investigating the clinical impact of an integrated e-health system for diabetes self-management support and shared decision making [2]. Our study showed that an e-health system (POWER2DM) integrating medical, psychological and behavioural aspects and connected wearables improved HbA1c compared with usual care in individuals with diabetes (between-group difference [95% CI] 2.6 [0.7, 4.5] mmol/mol; 0.24% [0.06%, 0.41%]; p=0.008) and improved (aspects of) quality of life (QoL) in those with type 1 diabetes, improved diabetes self-management in both those with type 1 diabetes and those with type 2 diabetes, and was well accepted in daily life.
