A model for morphological studies on ligand-receptor complexes
other
Effector molecules (e.g. growth factors, hormones, peptides) are often bound to a specific plasma membrane site by a high affinity saturable process. This phenomenon is called ligand-receptor binding. The receptor-bound material is then internalized into the cell by a receptor-mediated process called receptor-mediated endocytosis [16]. This process of internalization often takes place via the coated pit-vesicle system [7, 13, 1.7].
