Scytalidic acid, a novel compound from Scytalidium species

The structure of scytalidic acid, a metabolite of Scytalidium FY strain and of Scytalidium album is shown to be 8‐butyl‐8‐hydroxy‐3‐pentyl‐1,5‐cyclononadiene‐1,2,5,6‐tetracarboxylic 1,2: 5,6‐dianhydride. Scytalidic acid is a new representative of the class of nine‐membered ring compounds comprising byssochlamic, glauconic and glaucanic acids and the rubratoxins
