CO2 transportation and network development

bookPart
CO2 capture technologies in various forms have already been deployed for almost a century. Amine technology was patented in the 1930s with the purpose of separating CO2 from natural gas sources. These operations are solely intended to produce natural gas at a given specification, dictated for instance, by the maximum CO2 allowable in the pipelines, having no connection with climate change. The pure CO2 stream obtained in such operations is typically vented to the atmosphere. One exception is when CO2 is reinjected in wells to increase oil production (referred to as enhanced oil recovery, EOR).
