A study of mixed RuO2/TiO2 catalysts for the photochemical oxidation of water by persulfate ions, sensitised by ruthenium II)tris(2,2'-bipyridine) ions

article
Mixed RuO2/TiO2 catalysts with a varying RuO2/TiO2 ratio have been examined in the oxidation of water by persulfate ions under illumination with visible light, sensitised by Ru (bipy)3 2+. An optimum in the rate of oxygen evolution is found when the RuO2/TiO2 ratio amounts to about 10/90. A catalyst, which was prepared by precipitation of relatively small amounts of RuO2 on TiO2, displays a considerably higher activity in the photochemical oxidation of water than the mixed RuO2/TiO2 catalysts
