Estimating impacts of innovative mobility concepts with the New Mobility Modeller
conference paper
This paper presents a model specifically developed to explore the mobility impacts of innovative
mobility concepts, based on connected and automated driving and shared mobility. It is an explorative
model for destination choice and mode choice, with a network fundamental diagram to assess impacts
on mileage, delays and vehicle numbers in a city or region. The model, called New Mobility Modeller,
has a short computation time and can be used to assess the expected impacts of new mobility and
parking concepts on mobility choices and traffic conditions for a large number of scenarios and
interventions. The model was applied to the Dutch Province of North-Holland. The potential impacts
of automated and shared vehicles and mitigating interventions were explored for four extreme
scenarios, showing that significant changes in mobility patterns and traffic performance (both positive
and problematic) can be expected. The model is extended to assess the impacts of
Mobility-as-a-service.
