Waveform-Aware Optimal Window Function Design for Mismatched Filtering

conference paper
This paper introduces a general framework for waveform-aware optimal window design for mismatch processing. First, the linear relationship between the window function and the output of the mismatch filter, for both frequency and time windowing and a particular waveform, is modeled. Making use of such a relation, typical window constraints are discussed and shown to be amenable for convex optimization. In addition, different convex costs are briefly introduced and an efficient convex optimization scheme is introduced. In addition, the control of the frequency roll-off of the designed window function is enforced by a simple regularization term. Numerical results illustrate the proposed optimal window design scheme and show the applicability of the framework for devising waveform-aware window functions
