Unevenness in halftone prints and detail rendering
conference paper
The perceptible unevenness in a halftone print can be explained by assuming two phenomena. These are the roughness of the paper and the non-facsimile reflection on the paper of the screen pattern on the printing forme. The unevenness caused by the paper is easiest perceptible in the solids and will therefore be called "solid unevenness". The "unevenness of print" caused by (non-facsimile reflection of the screen pattern is called "screen unevenness". This kind of unevenness also arises in halftone prints made on a perfectly smooth and homogeneous surface.
