Risk-based fire safety in healthcare; A Dutch approach

conference paper
Fire safety is becoming an important theme for more and more healthcare organizations in the Netherlands. The compliance with the fire safety requirements of the Dutch Building Decree is not always conclusive and discussions with the local authorities on the interpretation and elaboration of the legislation for fire safety are emerging. Regularly, in existing buildings, certain matters are not detectable, or the fire safety measures do not meet with all the requirements. There is a growing awareness that fire safety is inextricably linked to the quality of care that can be afforded by healt care organizations and they are increasingly willing to commit to things.
