Use cases for optical communication systems and ground stations (OCS) become increasingly more complex. This creates a need for a planning tool that estimates and maximizes the probability of success for an optical link. It must provide answers to the following questions: Can we locate the target system?; Can we track the target system?; Can we communicate with it? The Optical Communication Planning Tool is an emerging software tool that integrates various physics and engineering domains relevant for the determination of a communication link between two or more OCS.
