Levelized cost of energy and life cycle assessment of IDL (Integrated Lightweight Tower) Tower
conference paper
The offshore wind industry is growing rapidly, both in terms of market capitalisation and in terms of component (turbine and support structure) sizes. A pricing breakthrough can be expected because of two industry trends: increasing turbine capacity up to 15 MW and an increased operational lifetime of 25-30 years. For both trends a smart, reliable and efficient support structure is important. The rated power of offshore turbines will increase soon to 12 MW, with rotor diameters exceeding 200 m. Future predictions are looking at 15 MW or even 20 MW turbines, with even higher towers and longer blades
