Flexible Solar Cells
bookPart
This chapter discusses roll-to-roll (R2R) manufacturing of organic and perovskite solar cells (PSCs), as these emerging photovoltaic (PV) technologies can be fabricated using well-known R2R printing and coating processes that are widely used in the industry. The manufacturing of PV devices starts from the selection of a substrate. The main requirements for substrates for R2R manufacturing are flexibility and durability. Organic photovoltaics (OPV) have undergone significant development over the past few years. This solar cell technology offers the possibility of inexpensive R2R fabrication on flexible substrates and a wide choice of materials for applications where flexibility and color are important. High power conversion efficiency (PCE) and low-cost potential make PSC a very promising candidate for future applications. This type of solar cell is based on hybrid organic-inorganic lead halide-based material (perovskite), for example, methylammonium lead halides, as the light-harvesting active layer.
