The resolution of mixtures of aliphatic and terpene-type 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazones by thin-layer chromatography on silica gel

Mixtures of aliphatic and terpene-type 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazones can be separated by thin-layer chromatography on silica gel layers whether or not impregnated by vapour-phase adsorption of nitromethane or acetonitrile. The Galanos and Kapoulas method for R<sub>F</sub> value correction has been tested on different types of silica gel layers. The method has given consistent results on the silica gel preparation used.
