News from Brussels H2020 and other stories

First two years of H2020 are nearly finished – lessons learned and update on recent developments in EU Energy Policy Collaboration in European projects is very common for ECN researchers but the recently finished first calls of the new R&D funding programme Horizon 2020 were not as successful for us as we are used to from the past. This has to do with a major shift on how the European Commission looks at the positioning of energy R&D funding in general, among other reasons. Energy has gained new popularity in Brussels since the start of the crisis with Russia. While the climate change arguments have somewhat stepped in the back, energy security is the new talk of town. With the arrival of the new Juncker EU commission and the publication of the communication on a European Energy Union, the commission is trying to refocus on a number of issues. The colloquium will provide an update on recent developments with respect to the energy policy and the R&D funding landscape on European level and the implications for ECN.
