Measuring Instrument for Determinants of Innovations (MIDI): abstract
article
Background: From 2002, TNO developed a list of 60 potential relevantdeterminants of innovation implementation. These factors were based is a review of empiricalstudies, Delphi studies among experts and some original empirical studies in the Netherlands. Methods: Meta-analyses of 8 empirical studies on the implementation of preventive innovationsin Dutch youth health care and schools. Each study was based in the initial framework of 60determinants. Data were combined into one set. Missings were replaced by plausible values usingmultiple imputation. Reduction and operationalization of constructs was reached by univariateand multivariate statistics and by consultation 22 experts. Findings: The final MIDI consistsof 29 self-report determinants, which can be clustered as characteristics of (a) theinnovation, (b) the intended user, (c) the organisation, and (d) te social-political context.Preferred operationalization and manual are present. Discussion: Can we progress in programimplementation planning by the application of a generic assessment tool like MIDI? Is itdesirable and feasible to disseminate MIDI in a way that researchers share data formeta-analyses in order to gradually improve and validate the instrument?
