De reactie van de ademhalingswegen op exogene prikkels
article
The reactions of the respiratorytract on exogenous stimuli II - One should recognize that when inhaling particles the response of the respiratory tract and lungs is mainly dependent upon the area of deposition and retention. The effect is determined to a great extent by particle size and number of particles. Inhaled particles and gases may interact so that the effect of e.g. SO₂ is largely determined bij the presence of other aerosols. When performing inhalation experiments with a test gas, e.g. SO₂, one should keep in mind that the evoked response could be a nondirect one as a sequela of resorption in the nasopharynx. The deteriorating influence of sequential exposure and specially smoking on adequate physiological reactions is stressed.
