ReSpire WP1200 : Ontwerp Ventilatiesysteem
report
The objective of the National Technology project ReSpire is to develop a personal cooling system for soldiers. The aim is to enhance the soldiers sweat efficiency using a stream of air ventilating around the soldier’s torso. This document describes the design of the cooling system. Several attempts to develop cooling systems are discussed first. Even more, we used the shortcomings of these systems as a starting point for our project. Two elementary aspects are of importance for our cooling system: 1) to reduce the amount of resistance in air flow, using straight air channels, 2) to ensure that the airstream runs where it needs to run (no air leaking from the channels).
The current design was simulated in Comsol in order to investigate its cooling potential and to make a trade-off between the amount and the thickness of the air channels and the power needed to create a stream of air ventilating the soldiers torso. The next step in this project is to manufacture the first prototype of the cooling system. This prototype will be used to investigate its cooling power as well as its usability. This will be done in a later stage of this project.
