CONSISTEND: A model to calculate the influence of the construction process on the life span of asphalt and its implementation in tenders

conference paper
Quality control during the construction process is one of the determining factors that governs
the service life of an asphalt road. In CONSISTEND a predictive tool is developed that objectively determines the effect of quality control during the construction processes on the life span of surface courses of asphalt roads. The tool predicts the service life and provides insight in the construction parameters that govern the service life. The tool is based on expert judgment. To urge the knowledge on governing construction parameters to become commonly available and to accelerate the process of lifecycle analysis of a road becoming common practice, the implementation of the tool in a Most Economic Attractive Tender (MEAT) tender process is elaborated in the project. This paper describes the development of the predictive tool and the implementation of the tool in tenders. It will discuss the outcome, draw conclusions and recommend improvements of the tool as well as implementation opportunities
