Low-cost and easy producible paper-printed digital microfluidic chips
conference paper
Digital Microfluidics' (DMF) unique ability to freely move, split and mix discrete droplets and to handle magnetic particles in lab-on-chip systems raised its popularity in the last twenty years. However, DMF is not very common outside microfluidic laboratories. While control electronics are easily accessible, DMF-chips are always custom-built. Contrary to common techniques, printed paper DMF-chips are cheap, but still not accessible for everybody. We present an inkjet-printed, foil-based, cheap and reliable DMF-chip, which can be built without a cleanroom nor expensive equipment in small quantities as well as in mass production.
