The impact of resources pre and during deployment on post-deployment psychological resilience

other
Psychological resilience is a soldier’s ability to perform under and recover from adverse circumstances as well as stressors that are part of military operations. A model for Psychological resilience that has been developed within the Netherlands Armed Forces consists of individual, team, organizational, military family and leadership resources of military psychological resilience . These different resources are hypothesized to contribute to overall psychological resilience in the phase of preparing for, performing during or returning from i.e. an overseas military operation. To assess the relative importance of these resources on psychological resilience over the last two years the Netherlands Armed Forces have collected data on morale, psychological resilience and impact of deployment before and during deployments and related it to post-deployment screening measures. The data was gathered in ground forces, air force and navy units. Based on this datasets, results on the importance of resources for resilience pre –and during deployment on post-deployment wellbeing will be presented. Next to this, success and limitations of combining measures gathered before, during and after deployments will be discussed.
