Actiegrenswaarden voor een mogelijke kruisbesmetting van een levensmiddel met allergenen
article
The unintentional presence of allergens in prepacked foods caused by cross contact is a problem for food allergic patients and food producers. The labelling of products with a precautionary label such as ‘May contain traces of ...’ shows a poor correlation with the actual presence or absence of food allergens due to cross contact of products. This has led to a reduced information value of the warning for the food allergic patient and subsequent possible health risks. International stakeholders are working towards quantitative guidelines for the precautionary statement based on science based action limits. Improving may contain label practice should improve product choices for allergic patients and give a better basis for the advice by doctors and dieticians.
