Goede verlichting beeldscherm-werkplek wettelijk verplicht [Good lighting of the VDU-workplace under legal obligation]
article
Since January 1st the guidelines from the European Community concerning safe and healthy VDU-work has been included in the Dutch Law on Working Conditions. In this article the EC-guidelines in the field of visual ergonomics are elucidated. Practical solutions are given for the lighting of VDU-work-places to fulfil these requirements. Three notable consequences are: o Where colour use on the VDU-screen is essential, only a two-component lighting system with indirect general lighting appears to be adequate. o On the VDU-workplace for intensive text and/or data processing, the requirements are only met when a monochrome screen with light ("paper white") background is used. o It should be possible to mask the windows in VDU working rooms. Where colour use on the VDU-screen is essential only a light proof blind is adequate. In all other cases the blind does not have to be completely light proof, provided that the VDU-screen is not placed in front of the window.
