Intersectorale samenwerking rondom een gezonde wijk [Intersectoral coalitions to realize a healthy neighborhood: A Delphi-study to priorities, sectors and determinants]
article
Healthy neighborhoods are an important mean to increase health and quality of life of citizens. Realization of healthy neighborhoods requires coalitions of different sectors. This research answers the question on what factors experts agree that they contribute to effective intersectoral coalitions. We aimed for consensus about (1) priorities to facilitate healthy living environments, (2) to distinguish relevant sectors that need to be involved and (3) to identify the most important determinants for effective collaboration. We conducted a Delphi-study in which 27 experts discussed 71 items. This study revealed that social cohesion, landscaping, safety, quality of housing and sports and play facilities were seen as most important priorities for a healthy neighborhood. To realize these priorities, sectors should be involved such as urban planning, wellbeing and health, municipalities, sports organizations, schools, housing associations, neighborhood residents and businesses including local stores. Based on expert opinion we reduced the 71 items to 25. By indicating the priorities, sectors and determinants for effective intersectoral collaboration, this study provides an important step towards a methodology for systematic realization and evaluation of a healthy neighborhood.
