A survey of recent developments on the application of solar energy for heating of buildings is given. In the next decade there will be real possibilities to make economic use of solar thermal energy, even in a moderate climate, providing that a follow-up production of certain components (solar collectors) takes place. The activities within The Netherlands Organisation of Applied Scientific Research, related to the development of solar heating systems for Dutch meteorological climate conditions are pointed out.
