Investing in workplace innovation pays off for SME's: a regional innovation initiative from the Netherlands
conference paper
From 2009 to 2013 a workplace innovation project was carried out in a particular region in the Netherlands in order to strengthen the workplace innovation capability of SMEs (My Enterprise 2.0). First, in this study a summary is provided that reflects on the project’s major achievements. Second, the results of an evaluation research concerning the project are presented. The participating enterprises were each asked to complete a questionnaire regarding the workplace innovation capability of their company at two specific points in time: at the beginning and at the end of the project. Between these two points in time, a workplace innovation intervention was implemented. The construct of workplace innovation capability comprised strategy orientation, organising smarter, flexible ways of working and product-market improvement. The enterprises (n=103) which responded were subsequently divided into two groups, those which had implemented an intervention and those which had not. Those companies that had implemented interventions appeared to have a significantly higher score with regard to the overall workplace innovation capability.
