Fatigue in high-speed aluminium craft: A design methodology for predicting the fatigue life
conference paper
Within the VOMAS project, a methodology has been developed to predict the fatigue life of high-speed aluminium crafts. This paper describes this methodology and its implementation into a computational tool. This methodology computes the seakeeping and resulting pressure at the structure for all conditions within the vessel’s operational profile. The response of the structure to this loading is determined. A parametric 2.5D model of the bottom structure is used within the pre-design stage. A full 3D model of the structure is considered when using this methodology in the final design stage. After computing the structural response, the response near the selected structural details is known for all operational conditions. This allows to predict the fatigue loading of these details and to determine the expected fatigue life of the structural details.
