Immersive second-screen experiences using hybrid media synchronization
conference paper
Most second-screen services have so far been relying on watermarking and fingerprinting for providing synchronisation with the main TV screen. In the EU FP7 HBB-Next project, a new timestamp-based inter-device synchronization system has been developed, allowing for frame-accurate synchronisation between DVB streams and over-the-top HTTP adaptive streaming content. As a showcase for this technology, this paper describes a system that allows users to navigate through ultra-high resolution content on their tablets, while watching the main director-controlled stream on their TV.
