Ceramic research in the Netherlands: initial experiences and highlights of the Centre for Technical Ceramics

This paper describes the development of the Centre for Technical Ceramics in the Netherlands. Founded in 1985 with a staff of 15, the Centre now has more than doubled this number of employees. Contracts with industry throughout Europe are increasing steadily. The major basic research projects are introduced and results, some of them leading to innovative ideas for new applications, are described.
