Opto-acoustical determination of layer thickness using Rayleigh wave dispersion data

conference paper
A non-contact and non-destructive testing method using laser techniques was evaluated. An
instrumental set-up was realized to study the possibilities of determining the thickness of a
homogeneous mono layer on a homogeneous substrate from Rayleigh wave dispersion data. It has
been found, that the accuracy of the estimation of the layer thickness depends strongly on the
elastic contrast between the layer and substrate materials and the signal-to-noise ratio of the
measured signal.
