Requirements for the back seat of a car for working while travelling

bookPart
Vehicle interiors for working while travelling have certainly room for improvement. In this paper, travelers in the rear seat of a car using a laptop, a tablet and a book were observed and questioned. Additionally, EMG recordings were made in these three conditions. It appeared that the seat dictates the posture; the discomfort is low after 30 minutes driving. However, EMG shoulder muscle activity was high in tablet work compared with the other conditions and neck bending was often seen. It is advised to study the posture further and develop armrests that support the tasks. © 2012 by Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
