Application of EOSTAR Pro: Infrared guided anti-ship missile aim point selection studies

Over the last decades, despite considerable efforts to assess the impact of the environment on EO (Electro-Optical) propagation, very few, if any, operational tools have been made available to national
Forces. Compared to the radar domain, the existing tools in the EO domain are still behind the desired Technology Readiness Level (TRL). The EOSTAR project has been conducted by TNO since 2001 to insure a transition from research to operational EO models in the maritime domain. EOSTAR Pro can be used as a toolbox to evaluate the main atmospheric processes, such as transmission, refraction and turbulence. The toolbox includes also background, target and signature models to calculate the thermal radiance properties of the scene elements. A sensor module can give the actual representation of a 3D IR scene with 2D images. The modularity and the flexibility of EOSTAR Pro allow to foresee multiple and future applications: signature management, seeker or countermeasure performance, or classification aid. In this contribution, the relevance of EOSTAR Pro in Electronic Warfare studies is presented. The EOSTAR Pro library was coupled with a missile seeker simulator. EOSTAR Pro provides the synthetic images for the seeker during its runs. The EW modules simulate the missile fly-out and the seeker aim point selection. A discussion of the model will be given and representative unclassified results will be presented.
