DSEEP Process authoring made easy

conference paper
The Distributed Simulation Engineering and Execution Process (DSEEP) is a recommended practice for the development and execution of a distributed simulation environment, and provides a general process model that is meant to be tailored to meet the needs of individual applications. In 2011 DSEEP was released as a new standard: IEEE 1730-2010. However, DSEEP is published as a text-based process description. This format can require copying content from one document to the other in order to extend and adapt it to a specific project's needs. There are several advantages in providing a DSEEP process description in some standard, electronic format, like Software & Systems Process Engineering Metamodel (SPEM), and using a tool for extension and authoring. To mention a few: sharing and reuse of process content between user communities; automated generation of websites; adding guidance such as checklists and best practices; and tailoring to the local environment. This paper describes how the DSEEP can be translated from the text standard to SPEM using the Eclipse Process Framework Composer and evaluates the use of EPF Composer.
