The influence of modification on the thermophysical properties of magnesium wrought alloys

conference paper
Magnesium is the lightest engineering metal and has a great potential due to its raw material large natural reverse and interesting properties. Magnesium alloys are attracting increasing attention for industry for weight reduction and high fuel efficiency. Magnesium alloys are attractive alternatives for components in automotive industry, due to its high specific strength and stiffness, good thermal conductivity and recycling potential. It is also known that forge is the best suitable technology to produce structural parts and safety components with particular improvement mechanical properties, within a wide range of shapes and geometries. Automotive applications require good ductility for many components; other components require preferentially higher strength than ductility. Thus alloy development follows various requirements and certain alloy groups can be identified to provide certain properties.
