Light weight and compact TR Module development

TNO has a long history in design and development of dedicated RF MMICs to be used in all kind of applications and for different popular frequency bands, especially related to RADAR applications. These designs make use of the leading available MMIC processes, and commercialisation of some of these products is realized by introducing them as part of the M/A-Com Tech Asia catalogue. TNO has also an outstanding reputation in design for manufacturing of several commercialized RF frontends applied in specific niche industrial environments. Combining these two knowledge bases together with the application of standard available industrial technologies has resulted in the design and test of a demonstrator TR Module (TRM) in which MMICs designed by TNO are integrated into a RADAR TRM based on requirements for the EADS Astrium AstroSAR-Lite space based system. This paper reflects in short the technical steps that were taken and present the results of the realized and tested TR Module. Also some recent development and trends for TR modules will be presented
