Sensor techniques for improving maritime situational awareness

other
The presence of asymmetric threats in coastal and harbor environments, as well as in open waters is increasing. Potential suicide bombers and pirates need to be stopped at an early stage to prevent harm. Hence accurate situational awareness is essential. Detection and in particular recognition of such asymmetric threat is a complicated task. Targets are small, backgrounds are complex, and the resolution on the objects is extremely limited. For this reason a multitude of imaging sensors may be needed in order to classify threats as such.
