Robots, working conditions and job content: opportunities and hindrances for the improvement of the quality of working life

conference paper
The introduction of robots into workplaces offer opportunities to improve occupational safety, health and job content. In this study 16 case studies of robot work places in 4 companies and a literature survey were performed in order to prepare an instructional publication for the Dutch Labour Inspectorate. It appears that in many cases one fails to fully take advantage of the opportunities robots offer to improve working conditions. With respect to the amelioration of job content it can be concluded that robot related activities offer to little prospects. An approach in which not robot related work is also included offers a better perspective.
