Virtual sensors for advanced vehicle stability control
conference paper
Advanced vehicle control technologies provide a great potential to further improve vehicle handling, ride and safety. The goal of this research is to demonstrate the added value of the TNO Vehicle State Estimation module to integrated active safety. State-of-the-art Electronic Stability Control (ESC) systems limit the sideslip angle indirectly. In a case study, the benefit of estimated sideslip angle for advanced vehicle stability control is investigated through comparison of 3 different ESC concepts. For example, it will be shown that vehicle handling can be improved without compromising stability and comfort. Some typical vehicle state estimation and stability control results measured in a TNO test vehicle with active braking will be shown.
