Full scale measurements of wind loads on stand-off photovoltaic systems

conference paper
Solar energy systems are becoming increasingly popular. A large potential for these systems is found on buildings, in particular on roofs. For existing buildings with pitched roofs, stand-off systems, which can be applied as retrofit solutions, are frequently applied. Wind loads for such systems are not found from current codes and standards. A full scale and a wind tunnel experiment were carried out in the EU 6 th Framework project EUR ACTIVE ROOFer. The full scale experiment is presented here. A series of full scale measurements have been performed at a house in the Netherlands, to obtain design data for stand-off PV modules. The results indicate that for these systems the top and bottom pressures are very well correlated. Results are now available which can be used as a first step towards drafting of guidelines for the installation of stand-off solar energy panels. © Museo Ideale L. Da Vinci.
