Human Performance Assessment in Driving Simulators Phase 1: theoretical backgrounds
report
In theory, driving simulators are ideal for assessment of driving performance. Driving simulators are reliable and objective measurement instruments and seem to have a high validity with regard to the actual driving task. Furthermore, in a driving simulator, one can control the traffic situation that is presented to the driver. Thus, driving simulators have an important advantage over practical driver assessment. This report reflects the work that has been performed in phase 1 of the three year project ‘assessment in driving simulators’. In this project we will develop an automated assessment for a driving simulator. In this phase, project partners were Cito, ANWB driver training, Rozendom Technology and the Dutch licensing authority CBR. The ambition of the project reaches further, however, as driving simulators are merely a first step in the development of a generic module for simulator based assessment.
