Rocket impact on panel structures
conference paper
Passive protection systems for expeditionary forces camps are studied by TNO on behalf of the Netherland’s MODCorps of Engineers. This paper will first address the inventory of the internationally available knowledge on threat versus protection systems. Next the results of an exploratory experimental and numerical study regarding the possibilities of high strength concrete panels to protect against rockets are reported. The numerical simulations clearly demonstrated the ability to study the impact and penetration process in detail. For the future it was decided to use numerical simulations (i) for the definition of the ideal High Strength Concrete (HSC) -material parameters and the design of protective panels and (ii) for adequate test design. The study confirmed the need for test methods to characterize the dynamic material properties.
