Recent years have shown an increase in the use of tools that
enhance situational awareness. Use of GPS for navigation
has become common usage. Furthermore, in many
countries vehicle based computer systems are currently being
fielded for first responders providing preparative information
access. For example in the Netherlands several fire service
organizations have introduced so-called Mobile Data
Terminals that give the fire service vehicles’ crew access to
information about buildings, factories, storage of chemical
substances, water supply points etc.
