One of the construction activities where working conditions certainly can be improved is rebar tying. In particular, the forward-bent working posture, the repetitive movements, and the cyclic character of the work increase the chance of discomfort and musculoskeletal injuries in the long run. The Dutch rate of sick leave in this profession is 7.9%, compared to 6.2% in the Dutch construction industry overall (CBS 2002). © 2005 by CRC Press LLC.
