The objectives, organization structure, and activities of the newly established International Commission for Protection against Environmental Mutagens and Carcinogens (I.C.P.E.M.C.) are presented. The purpose of this commission is to evaluate current knowledge and establish priorities for research and regulatory action concerning substances and situations that may result in significant genotoxic damage to humans.
