Experimental gerontological research
article
The main goal of experimental aging research is to understand the mechanisms of aging in order to rationally approach the health problems of the aged as well as to increase the quality of life in this phase of human existence. Animal models are needed to obtain this goal. It is outlined that the approach of biomedical research on aging should be along three main lines, viz., the study of fundamental aspects of aging, the relationship between aging and disease and the influence of environmental factors on aging.
