Reflection of surface waves in presence of a semi-infinite planar EBG

conference paper
A surface wave propagating in a grounded slab undergoes a reection when it encounters a planar EBG structure. This reection is characterized via an equivalent reection coefficient. Such characterization can be useful in different phases of the design of planar structures aimed at the control of surface waves in integrated circuits. In the present contribution the optimization of the radius of an equivalent cavity that surrounds a planar printed antenna is taken as particular application scenario in order to highlight the potentials of this new analysis technique as design tool. The maximum of radiation BW is obtained when the radius of this equivalent cavity is λTM0/2.
