Organizational and Safety Impacts of Office Work and Telecommuting: a Macroergonomics Perspective

This panel emphasizes and discusses the importance of understanding the organizational factors that impact office and computer work, whether a person works in a conventional office environment or in an alternative work environment, such as telework or virt al office. Overall, the focus and theme of the panel will be to examine in-depth the influences that work organization, senior management commitment, worker involvement, and work environment have on individual, group and organizational effectiveness and quality of work life among office and computer workers. Conceptual models and approaches based on a macroergonomics perspective will also be discussed and presented, as they are applied to each research field study and organizational practice. Panelists will present their topic area and abstracts are provided below. After the short presentations, a 15-20 minute discussion will occur. This interactive engagement will be led by the session chair who will also provide a summary of the key points at the conclusion of the panel session.
