POD generator: a quantitative assessment of the performance of inspection systems

Process installations and pipelines suffer from degradation like corrosion and cracking. The condition is often determined by off-line inspections, employing non-destructive testing techniques. These inspection techniques have their limitations in terms of reliability and effectiveness. In the POD generator project, numerical models are being developed and validated, simulating the physics of the degradation mechanisms and the inspections techniques. Also the human factor is taken into account. These validated numerical models can be used to generate so-called Probability Of Detection (POD) curves.
