In 2007, the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK) approved the research programme ‘Overheid en nieuwe media’ (‘Government and New Media’). The ministry recognised the need to assess the influence of new media on the functioning of public administration, and the research programme is a response to that need.
