VIAPACHE : traffic observation using defence technology

TNO Defence, Security and Safety and Vialis Traffic B.V. developed a compact, low cost radar for traffic monitoring purposes. This ViApache radar composes a real time operational picture of the traffic in a road section. It calculates individual vehicle position, speed, acceleration and driving direction and offers standstill alarms. The development builds upon many years of military and civil TNO experience in radar technology. The radar is used with traffic controllers and offers new, advanced possibilities for efficient traffic control. In its basic operational mode, the radar simulates inductive loops and therefore requires relatively low integration effort in existing infrastructure.
